8th October 2024, Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain | The General
Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI) successfully
organised a public lecture titled "Islamic Finance in a Changing
Landscape: The Role of Corporate Governance and Ethical Practices", in
collaboration with the University of Bahrain. The lecture attracted over 500
students, underscoring the growing interest in corporate governance within the
Islamic finance sector.
Dr.
Abdelilah Belatik, Secretary General of CIBAFI, delivered the
lecture, emphasising the critical role of corporate governance in ensuring the
resilience, transparency, and ethical operations of Islamic banks and financial
institutions. He highlighted significant improvements in governance frameworks within
Islamic banks while addressing the emerging challenges posed by digital
banking, evolving regulations, and risks associated with disruptive events.
The
lecture concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, providing
students with the opportunity to interact directly with Dr. Belatik. CIBAFI and
the University of Bahrain are set to continue their collaboration, with plans
for another public lecture next month focusing on Fintech and AI.
